Single digit seven segment display module using 74LS47 IC

Test your module

Testing the module is very easy. Numbers can be displayed in the seven segment display manually by connecting jumpers across the burg strips. Testing will help you to confirm whether your board is ready for operation. Soldering mistakes will not give the expected result.

Components required

Step 1

Power the single digit seven segment display module from a voltage regulator module.

Step 2

Connect jumpers across the burg strips to display the numbers manually. Note the position of yellow jumpers in each images (red encircled in the first image). Burg strip on top is connected to 5V and burg strip on bottom is connected to the BCD inputs of 74LS47 IC. Normally, all the BCD inputs are connected to LOW (ground) through pull down resistors. While connecting a jumper, corresponding BCD input will be connected to HIGH (5V). Truth table is given below.

Qd Qc Qb Qa OUTPUT
LOW LOW LOW LOW 0
LOW LOW LOW HIGH 1
LOW LOW HIGH LOW 2
LOW LOW HIGH HIGH 3
LOW HIGH LOW LOW 4
LOW HIGH LOW HIGH 5
LOW HIGH HIGH LOW 6
LOW HIGH HIGH HIGH 7
HIGH LOW LOW LOW 8
HIGH LOW LOW HIGH 9

Jumper arrangements and the number displayed in each arrangement is given below. Note the position of yellow jumpers in each images (red encircled in the first image).
